Every 2 years for:
- earth systems protected against atmospheric discharge situated in medical premises, building sites and those suffering high risk in the event of fire (generally also including those with a fire prevention certificate);
- electrical systems with danger of explosion;
Every 5 years for:
- earth systems and protected against atmospheric discharge situated in all other environments.
ECO Certificazioni was one of the first bodies qualified by the Ministry of Production Activities (bill 31/07/2002 published on G.U. n. 197 23/08/2002) to perform periodical and exceptional verification activities on all system areas provided for by DPR 462/01:
- Earth systems for wiring up to 1000V;
- Earth systems for wiring over 1000V;
- Installations and protection devices against atmospheric discharge;
- Electrical systems situated in work places with danger of explosion.

Law requirements
D.P.R. 462/01 makes all employers responsible for supplying periodical verification of all electrical earth systems, identifying new private players, bodies qualified by the Ministry of Economic Development, who may in alternation with governmental authorities and equally legitimately perform inspections.
Legislative news
D.P.R. n° 462 2001 defined a new system of execution modalities for the application, homologation and verification of electrical earth systems, devices for the protection against atmospheric discharge and electrical systems in places with danger of explosion installed in work environments, or in all activities counting at least one subordinate worker. The obligation to checks thus invests all employers by introducing two fundamental novelties:
1 – the introduction of bodies qualified by the Ministry that may perform periodical inspections of electrical systems as governmental bodies previously would;
2 – employer’s liability when there has been a failure to check, with the responsibility today of scheduling regular verifications in compliance with the law and no possibility of hiding behind the alibi of delays attributable to governmental bodies. Once the check has been passed, the qualified body issues the relative certificate to the employer who must keep and upon request exhibit a copy to vigilance bodies.
Obligation addressees
All employers have the legal obligation to have periodical checks every 2 or 5 years according to case.
When not compliant (delay or failure to check) infringers shall be liable for penal and/or civil sanctions.
Law intends to guarantee safety of all work environments as to risks deriving from electrical systems.
