The European Directive PED 97/23/EC,
implemented in Italy through Decree n°93 – 25 February 2000, “applies to
design, manufacture and compliance evaluation of pressure equipment (vessels,
pipes and accessories) and assemblies subjected to a maximum admissible
pressure PS > 0.5 bar”. Observance of Essential Safety Requirements
established by the Directive (Attachment I) is verified by a Notified Body,
such as ECO Certificazioni, through the application of evaluation procedures
described in Attachment III and allows manufacturers to affix the EC mark and
to commercialize their own products. According to the PED Directive, compliance
evaluation must be carried out also on existing equipments in use which must
undergo alterations or transformations (vessels, generators, etc), on the basis
of art. 14 - D.M. 329/2004.
The running of pressure equipments
After the manufacturing phase, pressure
equipments and assemblies enter the running phase and are ruled by Decree n°329
of the Ministry of Productive Activities dated 1 December 2004, which redefined
the sector of periodical and installation verifications by law for pressure
equipments.
Simple Pressure Vessels
Directive 87/404/EEC disciplines design,
manufacture and compliance evaluation requirements for simple pressure vessels,
i.e. vessels manufactured in series, with PS > 0.5 bar, intended to contain
air or nitrogen and not exposed to flame.
Said vessels, consisting of a cylindrical
part and two bottoms (plane or domed with the concave part facing the inside) or just two domed bottoms, must
be made in unalloyed steel or annealed aluminium alloys and must have a Pmax = 30
bar and temperatures between -50°C
and 300°C
for steel vessels, -50°C
and 100°C
for those in aluminium.
